School uniforms

All students are required to wear the correct school uniform. This page is a list of all formal, sport and co-curricular sport uniform items that students require while attending Hutchins.

The School Uniform Store is located at 195 Churchill Avenue, Sandy Bay and can be contacted on (03) 6225 0422.

School Holiday Trading Hours 2024
The School Uniform Store will re-open Monday 15 January 2024 for Back-to-School trading. 

All families will be able to make a uniform fitting appointment by booking .

Trading hours

  • 15–19 January – By appointment only (9.00am–4.00pm)
  • 22–25 January – By appointment only (9.00am–4.00pm)
  • 26 January – Closed (Australia Day public holiday)
  • 29 January – 2 February – Appointment spots available (9.00am–4.00pm), walk-ins are also welcome
  • 6 February – Extended trading day

Normal trading hours resume 14 February (8.00am–4.00pm).

During the school terms, our opening hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8.00am–4.00pm.

Please note that the School Uniform Store is cashless.

The School Uniform Store is . Parents/carers will need to register. You will require a password to log into the online store. Please contact the School Uniform Store on (03) 6225 0422 to acquire the password.

Daily wear: Pre-Kindergarten to Kindergarten

Notes

The blazer is an essential part of the uniform particularly for chapel, assembly and to and from school (it is only optional in the hot summer months when students may just wear shirts). From Prep – Year 6 students wear shorts, which are cross seasonal. Long-sleeved white shirts are permitted for sun protection. All students in Prep – Year 6 need to have a pair of shorts. The wearing of long trousers is an option.

Formal uniform and sports/PE uniform must not be combined – e.g. formal uniform must not be worn with sneakers. For Prep and Year 1, the sports/PE uniform only includes a house coloured polo which is worn whenever sports/PE uniform is required. For Year 2, the sports/PE uniform includes both a black Hutchins polo top and a house coloured polo top: the house coloured polo is worn for weekly PE lessons and house events such as school carnivals; the black polo is worn for afternoon sport blocks, for excursions, and for any event where the boys are representing the School (e.g. JSSATIS sports events).

Daily wear: Years 3–5

Some flexibility in the selection of summer or winter uniform is allowed. Long grey trousers with school blazer and white shirts (and school jumpers if required) are the usual winter uniform. Tailored grey shorts, with or without school blazer, long socks and long or short-sleeved white shirts are the usual summer uniform. Students may choose to wear either uniform at any time except on specially designated occasions, but it must be one or the other and not a mixture of the two.

  • One of the approved styles of hat

  • Standard black belt

Notes

Sport uniform for Years 6–8 includes both a black Hutchins polo top and a coloured House polo top. Students change into the House polo top for weekly Sport lessons and also wear this top for House events and carnivals.

Formal uniform and sport uniform must not be combined, e.g. formal uniform cannot be worn with sneakers.

Skins/undergarments are not part of the School uniform and must not be worn to PE lessons or sport carnivals. However if students still wish to wear them to sport training sessions they may. Skins/undergarments must not be worn to games.

Marieville Esplanade Campus

Formal uniform (only required if participating at formal events)

  • Grey trousers with short grey or black socks OR grey shorts with Hutchins grey walk socks

Year 9 boys will NOT be required to wear the following:

  • School blazer
  • School jumper
  • White shirt
